A Yarn From Yowie: Wine & Food – A Match Made In Heaven

Hi there, Yowie here! I thought it was time to share a little bit more about our beautiful home, and all of the delicious food you can find in the area to accompany our wines. Yes, food to accompany wine, not wine to accompany food! Because, let’s be honest, around here the wine is the star of the show!

Starting just 70kms from the heart of Brisbane city, The Visit Brisbane tourism website describes the Somerset Valley region as ‘the ideal real country escape from the bustle of city life’. Here at Woongooroo Estate, I just call it home! However, I’m immensely proud of my community and the area I live in, and want to share it, and my wines, with the world!

As much as I’m loathe to admit it, we can’t live on wine alone! Fortunately, we have access to some quality local producers whose quality of food goes down quite well with the quality of Woongooroo Estate’s award winning wines. Many local producers’ wares are featured in the cafe menu,  and local cheeses complete the star duet in the Woongooroo Estate specialty – Wine and Cheese Matching events.

For those who want to embark on a more thorough exploration of the palate pleasers in our local area, I recommend checking out the The Sunshine Coast and Surrounds Regional Food Directory. Here you’ll find an array of options from other local producers – everything from fruit and vegetables, jams and chutneys, artisan meats and cheeses, and authentic baked goods.

Although a little further afield, Kenilworth Dairy cheeses are some of my firm favourites and feature in the Wine and Cheese Matching events regularly. Owned and operated by a 6th generation farming family, drawing on 60 years of cheese making in Kenilworth, these cheese are quality, artisan delights. Kenilworth is between an hour and an hour and a half away from Woongooroo Estate, depending on which route you take, and how often you stop to admire the views!

In addition to scouting out individual producers, you could also time your visit to tee up with some of the area’s delightful collection of local markets. Witta (3rd Saturday morning of the month), Crystal Waters (1st Saturday of the month), Maleny (Every Sunday 8am-2pm), and Montville (2nd Saturday morning of the month) all hold artisan markets featuring local food and produce, all within a picturesque hour’s drive from Woongooroo Estate.

I definitely recommend allocating a whole day, if not a whole weekend to exploring what the Somerset Valley and Sunshine Coast Hinterland regions have to offer. Not only is it an easy escape from the city, with vistas so beautiful they’re a feast for your eyes, we’re also incredibly well wined and dined up here! Look forward to sharing delicious wine and food with you soon!

Cheers,

Yowie
